Mondo Duplantis Triumphs at World Indoor Championships with Historic Pole Vault Performance

Mondo Duplantis Retains Pole Vault Title with Outstanding Performance at World Indoor Championships

Glasgow, March 24 – Reigning world and Olympic champion Mondo Duplantis successfully defended his pole vault title at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, clearing a world-leading height of 6.05m in a thrilling competition.

The 24-year-old Swedish sensation, widely regarded as the finest pole vaulter of his generation, faced a stern challenge from his American rival Sam Kendricks, the 2017 and 2019 world champion. Kendricks, making a comeback after illness and injury, pushed Duplantis to the limit, producing five consecutive first-time clearances up to 5.90m.

However, Duplantis demonstrated his exceptional competitive spirit, overcoming several pressure moments to secure the gold medal. After a shaky start, where he nearly made a “shock exit” by failing twice at 5.85m, the world record holder found his rhythm and responded with a clutch clearance at 5.95m on his second attempt.

“This was the hardest I have ever worked,” Duplantis admitted after the competition, acknowledging the intense battle with Kendricks.

The American took the silver medal, while Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis claimed bronze with a best of 5.85m, his first major international medal.

Duplantis, who had already set five world records in the pole vault, narrowly missed out on his sixth, as he fell short in his attempts to clear 6.24m. Nevertheless, his consistent performances and ability to deliver under pressure once again demonstrated his dominance in the sport.

The young Swedish star’s parents, Greg and Helena, who have been instrumental in his development, watched on nervously from the stands as their son navigated the challenging competition. Duplantis later acknowledged the support of his mother, describing her as his “inspiration” and apologizing for the “scares” he had caused her during the event.

The World Indoor Championships in Glasgow have showcased the continued excellence of Mondo Duplantis, who continues to push the boundaries of the pole vault discipline and cement his status as one of the most remarkable athletes in the world.
