The Pole Vault Sensation at the World Athletics Awards 2023

As the prestigious World Athletics Awards 2023 approaches, the spotlight shines on Swedish pole vault sensation Mondo Duplantis, one of the five male finalists vying for the coveted World Athlete of the Year title.

Duplantis, the reigning Olympic and world champion, has once again raised the bar for pole vault excellence, surpassing even his own remarkable achievements from the previous year. The Swedish superstar continued his dominance, improving on his indoor and outdoor world records and successfully defending his world title in a high-quality competition.

The year started with a bang as Duplantis cleared 6.10m on home soil in Uppsala. He then went on to secure victories in Berlin (6.06m), Lievin (6.01m), and capped his indoor campaign with a world record of 6.22m in Clermont-Ferrand.

Duplantis’ outdoor season was equally impressive, opening with a world-leading 5.91m in California. He quickly regained his six-meter form, vaulting 6.11m in Hengelo and notching up victories in Oslo (6.01m), Ostrava (6.12m), and Stockholm (6.05m). After a rare defeat in Monaco, Duplantis roared back at the World Championships, easily clearing all heights en route to a dominant gold medal performance with a 6.10m vault.

“Despite the world title, Duplantis had his sights set on another world record. He achieved this goal in style, breaking his own record with a majestic 6.23m clearance at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene, his last competition of the season.”

By the end of a remarkable year, Duplantis had won 16 of his 17 competitions, with an astonishing 20 six-meter vaults – a testament to his consistency and mastery of the pole vault discipline.
