Aleksandra Nacheva Tops the Charts Ahead of Women’s Triple Jump Showdown
The women’s triple jump event at the upcoming IAAF World Championships is shaping up to be a thrilling contest, with a host of young talent set to battle it out for gold. Leading the charge is Bulgaria’s Aleksandra Nacheva, who has topped the 2018 world lists heading into the competition.
At just 16 years old, Nacheva is the youngest athlete in the field, but her performances this season suggest she is more than ready to take on the world’s best. The rising star claimed silver at the IAAF World U18 Championships in Nairobi last year, and followed that up by breaking new ground with a victory at the Bulgarian U20 title in June, leaping an impressive 14.00m – a world U20 lead that could earn her the gold medal if she can replicate that form in the final.

However, the Cubans can never be overlooked in a horizontal jumps event, and Davisleidis Velazco will be determined to make amends for her 12th-place finish at the previous World Championships. The 18-year-old has been remarkably consistent this season, surpassing 13 metres in all eight of her competitions, including a best of 13.92m in Havana back in February.
Despite the threat posed by Velazco, the depth of talent in the women’s triple jump is truly remarkable. No fewer than 13 athletes have recorded season’s bests beyond the 13-metre mark, including Slovenia’s Eva Pepelnak, who soared to a personal best of 13.61m last month. Brazil’s Mirieli Estaili Santos, Romania’s Georgiana-Iuliana Anitei, and Turkey’s Esra Yilmaz are also among the leading contenders for medals.
The Asian challenge will be led by China’s Pan Youqi, who has a best of 13.21m this season, while Italy’s Camila Vigato, USA’s Jasmine Moore, and Latvia’s Ruta Kate Lasmane will all be hoping to spring a surprise and secure a spot on the podium.
With such a wealth of young talent on display, the women’s triple jump is set to be one of the most captivating events of the IAAF World Championships. All eyes will be on Aleksandra Nacheva as she aims to cap a remarkable year with gold, but she will face stiff competition from a host of hungry rivals eager to make their mark on the global stage.
