Jumping Enthusiasts Await Yulimar Rojas’ Triple Jump Dominance at World Championships
Monaco, June 2022 – The upcoming World Championships in Eugene, Oregon this month will witness the highly anticipated return of Olympic triple jump champion Yulimar Rojas. However, the Venezuelan superstar will not be able to compete in the long jump event despite a qualifying leap in Spain earlier this year.
According to the governing body of track and field, World Athletics, Rojas’ long jump in Spain, which measured an impressive 6.93 meters, was deemed invalid as she was wearing triple jump shoes that are not approved for the long jump. The regulations stipulate that the soles of long jump shoes must not exceed a maximum thickness of 20 millimeters, while the limit for triple jump is 25 millimeters.
“We know this is disappointing for Ms Rojas and her legions of fans,” World Athletics said in a statement, “but we very much look forward to watching Ms Rojas compete in the triple jump.”
Despite this disappointment, Rojas’ legions of fans can still look forward to witnessing her dominance in the triple jump. The 26-year-old is the two-time defending champion in the event and has set two world records in the past year. She set the outdoor record of 15.67 meters at the Tokyo Olympics last August and followed it up with a remarkable 15.74-meter leap at the indoor World Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia, in March.
The women’s triple jump final is scheduled for July 18 at the World Championships, which will take place in Eugene, Oregon, from July 15-24.
