Record-breaking Performances in Women’s World Indoor Pentathlon and Men’s Triple Jump

Women’s World Indoor Pentathlon Record Broken at European Championships

In a standout performance at the European Indoor Championships, Belgium’s Nafissatou Thiam etched her name in the record books by setting a new women’s world indoor pentathlon record of 5055 points. The achievement comes just days before Jamaican triple jumper Jaydon Hibbert’s own historic feat at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Thiam’s Record-Breaking Campaign

Thiam, the reigning Olympic and world champion, opened her record-breaking campaign with a blistering 60m hurdles time, equaling her personal best of 8.23 seconds. She followed that up by clearing 1.92m in the high jump, vaulting her into the lead. An outright personal best of 15.54m in the shot put then gave Thiam a comfortable advantage heading into the final two events.

Despite a dominant 800m performance by Poland’s Adrianna Sulek, who clocked 2:07.17, Thiam’s strong long jump of 6.59m and an indoor personal best of 2:13.60 in the 800m were enough to secure the world record, surpassing the previous mark of 5013 points set by Ukraine’s Nataliya Dobrynska in 2012.

Jaydon Hibbert’s Historic Feat

Jaydon Hibbert, the reigning world U20 champion, made his own history just eight days later at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque. The Jamaican triple jumper soared to a winning leap of 17.54m, breaking the collegiate, world U20 indoor, and outright world U20 records in the process. Hibbert’s impressive performance has been submitted for ratification as the new outdoor world U20 record, while his 17.54m indoor jump will stand as the new world U20 indoor record.

These remarkable achievements by Thiam and Hibbert have undoubtedly cemented their places among the sport’s rising stars, showcasing the incredible depth and talent within the world of Jumping.
