Italian High Jump Star Tamberi Returns to Monaco for Diamond League Showdown
World-renowned high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy will make his highly anticipated return to the Herculis EBS Monaco meeting this July, seeking to reclaim the Wanda Diamond League title he won in 2021 and 2022.
The charismatic Olympic champion first tasted victory in Monaco back in 2016, but that milestone achievement was bittersweet as a freak injury forced him to miss that year’s Rio Olympics. Undeterred, Tamberi battled his way back to the top of the men’s high jump discipline, culminating in his dramatic joint gold medal alongside rival Mutaz Essa Barshim at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Tamberi’s Pursuit of Diamond League Glory
Since then, the Italian sensation has firmly cemented his status as one of the standout performers in high jump, winning the prestigious Wanda Diamond League title in both 2021 and 2022, as well as the world championship last August in Budapest. However, he is yet to secure another victory at the iconic Stade Louis II in Monaco, a feat he will be determined to accomplish on July 12th.
“With the 2024 Paris Olympics on the horizon, Tamberi will be eager to defend his Olympic title and cement his place at the top of the men’s high jump hierarchy.”
