Renowned Ukrainian High Jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh Set to Make Millrose Games Debut
(New York, February 11) World high jump champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh will make her first appearance at the prestigious Millrose Games when the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting returns to New York on February 11th.
The 22-year-old Ukrainian will be looking to build on her exceptional 2023 season, which saw her claim her first outdoor world title in Budapest and secure a second Diamond Trophy in Eugene. Mahuchikh’s impressive performance in Budapest included a 2.01m clearance, adding the world gold medal to the silver medals she had previously won in Oregon and Doha, as well as her Olympic bronze from Tokyo.
Cementing her status as one of the sport’s rising stars, Mahuchikh managed a world-leading 2.03m jump to win the Wanda Diamond League Final and also topped the indoor world list with a 2.02m clearance. She will enter the Millrose Games as the reigning world indoor champion, having claimed the title in Belgrade in 2022, and will have the opportunity to defend her crown at the upcoming World Indoor Championships in Glasgow in March.
“The women’s high jump event will be contested at the Millrose Games for the first time since 2019, adding to the excitement of the indoor athletics spectacle.”
Joining Mahuchikh at The Armory will be Britain’s world 1500m champion, Josh Kerr, who will headline the men’s two-mile field.
The 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour calendar will feature more than 50 meetings, including seven Gold-level events. Other top athletes confirmed for next year’s Tour include world champions Mondo Duplantis and Gudaf Tsegay, who will compete at the Astana Indoor Meet for Amin Tuyakov Prizes on January 27th, as well as world gold medallists Noah Lyles, Jake Wightman, and Gabby Thomas, who will race at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on February 4th.
