Extraordinary Feats in Tokyo: World Records Shattered in Jumping Events
Tokyo, Japan – The world records set by remarkable athletes in the triple jump, men’s 400m hurdles, and women’s 400m hurdles have been officially ratified, etching their names in the annals of sporting history.
World Record in Women’s Triple Jump
On August 1st, Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas soared to new heights, shattering the women’s triple jump world record with a stunning leap of 15.67m. The two-time world champion’s Olympic gold-medal-winning performance added 17 centimetres to the previous record held by Ukraine’s Inessa Kravets since 1995.
“I am lost for words; I can’t describe this feeling and this moment,” an elated Rojas said after her historic triumph. “Gold medal winner, with an Olympic record, and a world record… Wow. It is a fantastic night.”
World Record in Men’s 400m Hurdles
Two days later, Norway’s Karsten Warholm put on a display of pure athleticism, breaking his own 400m hurdles world record with a time of 45.94. The 25-year-old’s gold-medal-winning run saw him edge out the USA’s Rai Benjamin, whose silver-medal time of 46.17 also surpassed the previous world record.
“It’s so crazy,” Warholm exclaimed. “This is by far the biggest moment of my life. I was so focused on getting that last medal in my collection, and now it’s all complete.”
World Record in Women’s 400m Hurdles
The following day, the USA’s Sydney McLaughlin etched her name in the record books, shattering her own world record in the women’s 400m hurdles with a time of 51.46. Her compatriot, Dalilah Muhammad, secured silver with a time of 51.58, also faster than McLaughlin’s previous world record.
“I saw Dalilah ahead of me with one (hurdle) to go,” McLaughlin recounted. “I just thought: ‘Run your race’. The race doesn’t really start until hurdle seven. I just wanted to go out there and give it everything I had.”
These extraordinary feats in Tokyo have elevated the world records in their respective events to new levels, cementing the athletes’ legacies and showcasing the incredible progress and dedication in the sport of Jumping.
